Operational & execution domain

The transport order is the most important input to the operational (planning) and execution domain. When the transport order is handed over to the production domain, this order will first be planned. Typical planning components are: empty wagons assignment and repositioning, production route determination and the required capacity reservation on the subsequent train(s). Based on the planning the ETA is calculated and the order is confirmed to the customer. Based on this order planning, all relevant executable tasks are created, including the shunting planning.

On the day of operation the execution phase starts. The execution of production tasks includes movements (retrieve customer wagons, shunting, checks, transport) and services (weighing, repair, customs, et cetera). The shunting instructions are issued to the staff (on paper or via mobile). Shunting consists of replacement of wagons to or from the customer and to and from trains. Various types of shunting are supported; in case of hump hill shunting, the hump hill computer receives the instructions. The arrival trains will be disassembled (for the required wagons) and departing trains will be assembled. Each departing train is checked extensively against the defined rules and safety requirements in each phase of the formation of the train (for the first time already during creation the shunting plan). The results of these checks are shown to the user.

When the train is ready for departure, the train lists are created, the infra managers are informed, the Hermes message is created and customers are informed.Trains taken over from other partners (for example import border-crossing trains) can be handled via Hermes. After acceptance an existing (Orfeus/ECN) order is updated, or a new order is created. The wagon status is important and always shows the actual situation of the wagon. This wagon status also includes the load status and current defects of the wagon. The wagon status is shown in production user interfaces (Track list, Shunting screen, Train list, et cetera). The wagon events are stored and shown in the wagon history. When the transport has ended, the order is handed over to the financial domain for invoicing.

Tracking & Tracing

For registration of the whereabouts and rental of wagons, a tracking and tracing module is included. This module is directly connected to the financial and execution domain. For more information, please refer to the RCS page for a product description or interesting downloads.
