You recognize yourself in the following

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science or related fields 
  • A minimum of five years’ experience as a Technical Applications Manager 
  • A hands-on mentality; you are proactive, decisive and result-oriented.

  • You are good in problem solving and have a passion for technology 

The challenge

Together with your colleagues you will be responsible for the maintenance of various applications and databases within our development environment. By delivering high quality work, you create a reliable working environment and contribute to the efficiency of our development teams and business consultants. 

Next to that, you will also support our international customers in matters related to our application in their respective IT landscapes. Analytical skills and a result oriented personality are essential. Our applications form the heart  some of the biggest European railway operators and are crucial to the core processes of these railway operators.   

You daily tasks will include (a.o.): 

  • Installation, monitoring and delivering applications and databases 
  • Supporting the team in analyse complex issues 
  • Installation of software updates on the development and acceptance environment (both internally and externally) 
  • Maintain, execute, and oversee technical acceptance tests 
  • Back-up and recovery of applications and finetuning databases 
  • Create/maintain system documentation 
  • Continuously improve internal maintenance processes of the development and acceptance environments 
  • Help automize installation of acceptance environments, both internal and external 
  • Follow market developments and implement improvements accordingly 

    Requirements

    • A minimum of five years’ experience as a Technical Applications Manager 
    • You have a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science or related fields 
    • Proven expertise of database systems (Oracle, MS SQL Server, PostgreSQL) 
    • Basic knowledge of SQL 
    • Experience with Windows Server and Linux (Oracle Enterprise Linux, CentOS) 
    • Knowledge of network protocols (TCP/IP etc) 
    • Internationally oriented. Advanced verbal and written command of English and Dutch.  
    • Additional skills that could set you apart: 
    • Experience with one or more of the following application servers is an advantage; Microsoft IIS, Apache, WebSphere, Active MQ 
    • Experience in a DBA role is an advantage 
    • Experience with AWS is an advantage

    Ab Ovo, founded in 1997, employs over 110 quality-driven professionals. Our company has five branch offices (Capelle a/d IJssel, Amsterdam, Düsseldorf (D), Copenhagen (DE) and Boston (US). 

    As Technical Applications Manager you will be part of the 4RC (Rail Cargo) team of Ab Ovo. This teams specialises in delivering digital solutions in the rail cargo sector and has an international customer base. On the days that you will not be able to work from home, you will be located in our office in Capelle a/d IJssel (Rotterdam).
